DESAIX ANDERSON

Solo Exhibition

Mix media Paintings

December 4th - 28th, 2002

Desaix Anderson's painting has been influenced by long exposure to Asia, particularly Japanese art and by his life-long working in Asia in the American Foreign Service. Particularly the Japanese artist, Toko Shinoda, has influenced him. His preference for minimalist composition reflects many years of living in Japan, but earthy, peasant themes and colors appear in his painting during his residence in Vietnam. He also loves rich color reflecting both his passion for life and frequent travel in Mexico and living in Thailand. Mountains, river, the sun, moon and the earth are frequent themes in his work. He has produced an innovative series working with copper and gold backgrounds etched in acid. Reds, yellows, the elegant colors of imperial Asia, with gold leaf backgrounds have been increasingly prominent themes in his recent work.
